Dear Diary,
I don’t know where to begin. Today started off as an ordinary day, but it took a shocking turn when I came home early from school. I had forgotten my math textbook and needed it to study for an exam, so I took a bus home, arriving a few hours before I was due. When I walked through the front door, I was greeted by a sight that I will never be able to unsee.
There in the living room were my stepdad Frank and my younger brother Jacob. They were naked on the couch, with Frank on top of Jacob. Jacob’s skinny legs were wrapped around Frank’s back as Frank thrust into him. The graphic scene was bad enough, but what made it even worse was Jacob’s baby-talk voice. “Yes Daddy, your dick is the biggest and hardest! No one else can play with Daddy like I can! You’re so sexy Daddy!”
I stood there frozen in horror, unable to process what I was witnessing. Frank’s eyes suddenly met mine and he froze, realizing he had been caught. For a moment, no one moved. Then Frank pulled out of Jacob and quickly grabbed a blanket to cover them. “Roni, sweetie, it’s not what it looks like!” he said, trying to sound paternal instead of guilty.
I turned and ran upstairs, locking myself in my room, tears streaming down my face. How could this be happening? My own brother, defiled in such a way. And by my beloved stepdad, who I loved and trusted. I felt sick to my stomach. And…other emotions I couldn’t name.
I don’t know what to do. If I tell mom, it would break her heart. But I can’t just do nothing. I’m supposed to be protecting Jacob, not standing by watching. I’m so confused and disgusted. I just want to scream. But I must admit I can’t help but wonder why Jacob, and not…me?
