STARLIGHT LOT · OCTOBER DOUBLE FEATURE
Mara
pinup in her own coat · speaker on the glass
Exhibitionist Phone Sex
SPEAKER CHECK
The speaker crackles before the cartoon ends. Mara has the window down halfway, glove on the sill, seam of her stocking lined up with the door like she planned the shot. “Leave it on the hook,” she says. “If you came for exhibitionist phone sex, the screen is the excuse. I am the feature.”
A bat flies through the projector beam and the lot laughs. She does not. She tells him to keep both hands on the wheel while she describes the dress, the gloves, the way the vinyl seat warms under her. Public play, parked, not hidden. The family in the next car is watching the monsters. He is watching her mouth in the dark glass. She likes the split.
The creature gets the girl on the screen. Mara rewrites it. She narrates a pinup in the back seat of a Bel Air, skirt tucked, stockings the only light when the reel goes silver. Tease and denial timed to the dialogue. When the heroine screams, he stops. When the score swells, two strokes, then the wheel again. “Exhibitionist phone sex is a double bill,” she says. “They get the monster. You get the woman who will not let you finish during the monster.”
Fog machine, cheap and perfect. She has him crack his door so the light hits her calf, then close it when a kid runs for the snack bar. Voyeur games with a curfew. She describes uncrossing her legs only while the fog covers the lower half of the screen, and she makes him say what he saw before she covers it again. Her own coat on the seat. Her own lipstick on the speaker grille. Nobody lent her the picture.
INTERMISSION · ONLY TOUCH WINDOW
Snack-bar line as cover. One hand, under the coat, until the paper tray comes back. Edging against the rattle of ice. She counts popcorn, not seconds. “When the box is empty, you stop. That is the whole permission.” He finishes the box too fast. She sends him back for a second box he does not get to eat, and she keeps talking while he stands in the light like a man who forgot the movie.
The couple on screen kisses like they invented it. Mara kisses the speaker, a joke and a mark, and tells him the kiss is for the lot, not for him. Halloween double feature, second film meaner. She describes staying after the credits, lot emptying, her heel on the dash, his name said only when a car door slams two rows away. Stockings. Gloves. The old pinup rule that the picture stays composed even while the voice does not.
TRAILING AD
She reads the number the way the snack bar reads the soda price, slow, twice. “If the speaker drops, call it back. Exhibitionist phone sex does not end because the reel does.” The longer feature, the one with the windows up, is at kinkypinup.com/mara. She hangs the speaker up herself. The cartoon bat is still in the beam. Next week’s card is already in her glove.
